Mohammed Al Qudwa is a Palestinian writer, theatre maker and performer from Gaza, currently based in France. His artistic practice moves between writing, theatre, performance and embodied research, exploring memory, language, displacement, and the relationship between the body and place. His work considers the body as a living archive and memory not simply as a way of returning to the past, but as material that can be transformed through performance.

Al Qudwa began his artistic journey through writing in Gaza, working across literature and storytelling before gradually moving towards theatre and performance. In 2022, he published his first novel, The Final Destination, while working for several years across cultural and educational contexts. Facilitating and leading workshops became an important part of this experience, working with participants across generations and backgrounds—from children as young as seven and eight to adults in their sixties—through workshops centred on storytelling, writing, expression and creative practice. Working with such different groups and generations helped shape his approach to collective participation and to creating spaces for experimentation and exchange. Over time, his practice expanded beyond the written text towards questions of how words can become voice, movement, image and physical presence.

During the war in Gaza, Al Qudwa continued cultural and humanitarian work in schools and shelters before leaving Gaza in 2024. While in Egypt, he began a research project entitled The Humanitarian Corridor, gathering testimonies and experiences connected to leaving Gaza, displacement, borders and memory. This research later became the starting point for his performance 3  Seasons and 1 Body (3 saisons et 1 corps), a work that draws on personal memory and the body to examine the traces left by war within individual and collective memory.

Since moving to France, his practice has developed through artistic residencies and collaborations with theatre and cultural institutions in France and internationally. 3 Seasons and 1 Body is currently touring in France and abroad, following a creation process that unfolded through several stages of research, writing and experimentation with movement, sound and scenography.

Alongside this work, Al Qudwa continues to develop new projects at the intersection of language, poetry, the body and performance. These include IN BETWEEN, a poetry-theatre project developed through an artistic residency in Sardinia, and ROOT / جذر, a new theatrical research project exploring Arabic language, voice and the body as performative materials. He is also Artistic Co-Director of Marakeb / مراكب, a platform dedicated to Palestinian writing and interdisciplinary artistic practices, creating spaces for exchange, research and development between writers and artists.

His practice today is defined by a continuous movement between writing, performing and making theatre. Rather than treating these as separate disciplines, Al Qudwa works within the space where they meet: where language becomes movement, memory becomes physical material, and theatre becomes a place in which personal experience can enter into dialogue with broader questions of history, exile, belonging and what remains after loss.
